Language Monster

The other day, Aari asked me to shut my mouth in Telugu and Marathi because I couldn’t stop laughing at something Chandu was telling him. It’s wonderful how Aari’s picking up English, Telugu and Marathi at the same time. And also random Hindi slang like “jhakkas.” I’d always heard about kids from multi-lingual homes picking up all the languages proficiently. But to see it at work is something else! Aari, more or less knows three words for everything and uses them appropriately. He is also quite eager to learn words if he doesn’t know them. Children are just limitlessly curious and absorbent…so picking up more than one language seems to be like a cakewalk for them. It’s not a task like when adults learn a new language, but just a natural process of engaging with the world. Pretty amazing! 🙂
